Taulu Mansion offers visitors the romance of days gone by with modern comforts. We offer accommodation, catering and meeting services. The well-equipped rooms have been decorated in a 19th-century mansion house style. Visitors can choose among 14 atmospheric double rooms (with extra beds), the family suite “Shopkeeper’s Chambers”, Villa Kangastus (sleeps 8) and Villa Riihiranta (sleeps 2). Pets are also welcome to some of the rooms.
The Mansion’s meeting services offer facilities and packages of different sizes ranging from the Master’s Chamber for 8 to the Servants’ Hall for 150. We also treat our guests to spa services; the visitors have the choice between a Garden Spa in the main house or a country spa on the lake, where you can enjoy a traditional smoke sauna, an aromatherapy sauna and a hot tub.
The Mansion operates both a fully licenced summer restaurant in July and a restaurant catering for pre-booked groups round the year. You can choose between a buffet, à la carte or cocktail service, including various thematic menus. Developing Finnish cuisine and local food is close to your hosts’ hearts. The menus are based on local and seasonal ingredients. Game and freshwater fish are also sourced locally.
The Mansion received a certificate of honour in the Farm of the Year contest in 2008 and the Visit Jyväskylä tourism award in 2018.
The roots of this historic mansion go back in time for more than a century. The farm was established as an army officer’s estate in 1849 and has housed a school, a sub post office, a village shop and a forestry research station. The surroundings of the farm feature old outbuildings, a servant’s hall, a storehouse and a drying barn, which have been renovated ecologically and respecting their original character. In addition to the old trees and orchard around the house, protected shoreline meadows are part of the farm’s attraction.
Taulu Mansion is run by Arts & Crafts Restaurants Ltd, a family business with values founded on traditions and environmental friendliness. Harmooni in the centre of Jyväskylä is another business managed by the company. Located in an old pump organ factory built in 1910, it is a protected building of regional importance. The building houses à la carte restaurant Kellariravintola, Harmooni Garden terrace in the summer, and a restaurant for pre-booked groups.
In meal ingredients, Harmooni and Taulu Mansion focus on seasonal local produce. We also serve local beers and organic juices.
Taulu Mansion is located in the village of Kankainen in Toivakka, Central Finland, about 35 km from Jyväskylä.
The Mansion and its surroundings offer plenty of activities, including guided cycling trips, guided nature walks, trips to pick berries or mushrooms and fishing trips, snow shoeing and skiing. The Mansion organises guided tours to national parks in Central Finland. Visitors can borrow a rowing boat.
You can also book a pampering package in the country spa (incl. massages), or forging or felt working classes.
There are several natural attractions nearby, including the bird watching tower of Lapinjärvi (5 km). The Mansion’s own nature trail leads to Hautajärvi lake and Hautavuori hill (the word ’hauta’, or ’grave’, refers to an ice-age depression). Leivonmäki nature reserve is also nearby.
The Mansion has a theatre, Riihiteatteri, which puts on performances in July.
