Box Bed & Breakfast and Handelsmans Café are located in the rural setting of Sipoo, only 30 km from Helsinki.

The pink building housing the café was put up more than 100 years ago as the village shop by a working party. The first floor of the café building has accommodation for 4 visitors (a shared bedroom with 4 individual beds, kitchenette and 1 toilet/shower. The main house has 5 double rooms (3 of them downstairs and 2 upstairs). Both floors have 2 toilets/showers.

The café serves cakes, home-cooked meals and brunches favouring organic and local foods. Also suitable for meetings and occasions for groups of 10-20 (wheelchair access). Concerts, exhibitions and discussion evenings. The hosts actively promote the slow food movement. Gardening books and a shelf for exchange books. In the summer, the farm shop sells vegetables, early potatoes and seasonal berries. Seedlings and seasonal flowers available on order.

Surroundings and activities

The inn stands on your host’s small home farm in the middle of Box village. You can book walking tours of the village, guided tours of the garden, gardening and flower binding courses and activities promoting well-being at work. ”Garden of Memories” tells stories from village history and the lives of the garden-loving hosts. A teaching, presentation and therapy garden is also under way.

The surrounding area offers excellent cycling and walking routes. Bicycles and lunch baskets can be booked. Hiking routes in Sipoonkorpi National Park at 6-8 km. Cultural attractions include the old stone church of Sipoo and Jokipuisto park in Nikkilä. Distance to Söderkulla village 5 km. Fishing trips and cruises in Sipoo archipelago can be booked. Also ask about board and lodging against garden work.

Box B&B is located 30 km to the east of Helsinki and 18 km to the west of Porvoo.

• Bus: Good bus connections from Helsinki and Porvoo along Uusi Porvoontie (Road no 170). Bus stop after the Sale shop. Continue south for 1 km on the road signposted to ’Spjutsund ja Nevas’ (no 1534). The cycle path ends at the inn.
• Motorists/cyclists: Only about a 20-minute drive from Helsinki. See directions above.
